Baccarat Basics
Traditionally considered to be a high-stakes game, baccarat is one of the most popular card games in the world. Played on a two-sided table, players place bets on the Player or Banker hand. The aim of the game is to create a small house edge on the player’s bet.
Baccarat is played with three to six standard 52-card decks. The dealer deals two cards to each player. They are then put under the shoe and the croupier announces the totals. The croupier then has the choice of either putting the cards back or drawing a third card. Typically, the dealer will draw a third card if the banker’s hand is tied. When a tie is achieved, the banker will then try to beat the player’s hand by betting more.

Typically, a bet on the banker’s hand will result in a 1:1 payout. If the player’s hand wins, a bet on the banker’s win will usually give the player a 5:1 payout. If the player’s hand loses, a bet on the banker’s loss will usually give the player a 7:1 payout. The banker’s bet is also subject to a 5% commission.
In most casinos, a tie bet is available. This bet is usually priced at 8 to 1 against a tie. If the banker’s and player’s hand are tied, the bet will typically give the player a 9 to 1 payout. In addition, some online baccarat sites offer side bets that cost significantly more than the main bets. Some offline casinos have many side bets. These side bets are typical of casino games in general.
The first thing a baccarat player should do is determine how much money they are willing to wager on each hand. There are several options to choose from, and the player should set a win limit for each hand. Some people set a win limit that is double their money.
